HOW TO GET AROUND SAN FRANCISCO: TRANSPORTATION BASICS

Follow these tips and you’ll be the transportation hero of your San Francisco adventure.

GETTING TO SAN FRANCISCO FROM THE AIRPORT IS EASY WITH BART

The Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) is the fast, easy, low-cost way to get from San Francisco International Airport or Oakland International Airport to San Francisco.

Taxis

Taxi service is available throughout the city. From San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Moscone Center, current fares are approximately $65.00, one way with tip. From Oakland International Airport (OAK) to Moscone Center, current fares are approximately $80.00, one way with tip.

Use this helpful Taxi Fare Finder tool to estimate the cost of your taxi ride.

Uber/Lyft

You may use Uber or Lyft throughout the city of San Francisco, including to pick you up/drop you off at San Francisco International Airport. At SFO, you will be picked up curbside on the departures level of your terminal. Simply confirm your terminal and door number when requesting service via the app.

At Oakland International Airport, you will be picked up curbside at the “Smartphone App Rides” pickup area at 2E, which is located on the second curb from the terminal, separated by the island.

Bay Area Rapid Transit

Support San Francisco’s sustainability efforts by taking BART!  BART’s all-electric rail trains from SFO or OAK airports keeps 20.2 lbs of carbon per round trip out of the air. BART is the fast, easy, low-cost way to get to downtown San Francisco in 30 minutes.

Purchase a round trip $21 BART ticket voucher online and avoid lines to buy tickets at the SFO BART station.
